Counselling is about change. Whatever brings you here today, it’s likely to involve a desire for change in your life; for something to be or feel different to how it is for you now.
I believe that each of us has personal vulnerabilities and concerns that we long to share with someone who is trustworthy, kind, non-judgmental and confidential. And I’m a firm believer that when met with compassion, acceptance and empathy, these vulnerabilities can slowly start to lose their power to disrupt our lives. The challenges of modern life mean that sometimes there just isn’t enough of these qualities “in the wild”, so I make them available to clients in my consulting room.
For me, the power of counselling comes from the quality of the relationship that is created between therapist and client. My aim, when we work together, is that we build a relationship where you feel heard, understood, accepted and supported; and that you feel able to trust me as we explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment. I like to think of it as a "collaborative alliance". By creating and developing our relationship, we can explore your concerns, find ways to deal with them, and better manage your life.
Therapy is not easy. It can get messy at times, it won’t always be linear; and it requires commitment from both of us.
I offer face-to-face and online counselling (via Zoom). I offer a free telephone consultation to see whether counselling might help you. Before qualifying, I spent over 20 years providing HR support, training and executive coaching for a number of City firms. I'm therefore very aware of the challenges and pressures of modern corporate life, and now specialise in working with people affected by The City.
You may find that a few sessions can help you to address a specific problem, or you may choose to work on a longer-term basis in order to focus on deeper issues. You are unique and I will work with you to find out which approaches will work best for you. Whichever approach we agree on, be aware that counselling is not an easy journey and requires commitment; there is no magic wand!
